David Nurenberg

David Nurenberg is both a high school English teacher and an Associate Professor of Education, as well as an educational consultant and writer in the Boston area. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Nurenberg contributes actively to education scholarship and consults with middle and secondary schools seeking to develop, improve and expand their work with student-centered pedagogy, inquiry and project-based learning, cooperative learning, and more.

Helping young people find their voice and learn skills to help them make a difference. Student-centered learning, schools and educators willing to rethink the way education operates, finding nonviolent ways to fight for social justice and equity, really well-written books and television (especially science fiction), and traveling to as many places as I can.

There is work to be done with people, especially young people, who have led privileged lives, helping them see a reason, and a role, for them to play in using their privilege (or even giving it up) to address issues of social justice. We tend to focus a great deal on the disadvantaged of the world, and rightly so...but we often forget that the other half (or 1%?) of the equation, those of us who have a great deal of advantage, need to have an active hand in changing the very system that gives us power. It's a tall order, but there are ways.
