👰🏻 My wife says I’m a character straight from a cartoon book where magic makes anything happen 🧙🏼
🌋 I grew up next to an active volcano in Pasto, 🇨🇴. In 2004, I left Colombia, moved to the 🇺🇸, and learned English while waiting tables, parking cars, and teaching salsa lessons. A fifteen-year hustle brought me through Columbia University, Wall Street, the creation of the International Day of Happiness at the U.N.🇺🇳 , and a stint as the VP of Marketing for the fastest growing messaging app in Internet history.
💻 Until 2021, I was the Head of Latin America for Coursera, responsible for bringing education to more than 17 million learners in the region I love.
💥My cartoon world is one where whimsy and imagination are the norm, where people unite around the things that drive them, and where everyone has the tools they need to do great things.
🛠 Building and spreading those tools is my mission. I’ve used my journey to launch social impact projects like OYE, Coursera in LatAm, AntiMondays, and a happiness movement that reached millions of people around the world. 🙏🏼

The TED story
I did not know about the TED live conference in Boston in July 2010 until two weeks before the event. All the spots were taken and I had little chance to get invited. Then, after having a revitalizing double espresso, I decided to contact the organizers and tell them how interested I was in being part of this event. They challenged me to write a revolutionary idea that can change the world and if they liked it, they would consider extending an invitation to me as an attendee. Well, guess what idea I wrote? I told them about my Tourist Attitude theory and this is how I got my invitation. I have also got inspired by TED and ended up organizing a talk at my place where I invited random people through meetup.com and got an attendance of 40 people that I didn’t know before. We had 3 speakers and a great time sharing ideas to transform the world.
