About Carrie

I am a…

Activist, Artist, Change Agent, Connector, Consultant, Event planner, Producer

Bio

I'm a cultural nomad who has moved more than twenty times in my life. I'm perpetually the new person in every room, which means I've had to come up with creative ways to build community and find my people. I've been a TEDx organizer since 2010. I find the greatest rewards in work that connects us more deeply to ourselves, our communities, and the world. I'm also a mother to two daughters. They keep me humble and grounded, not to mention committed to doing work that matters.

I'm passionate about

Intersectional feminism, perfume history, boba tea, hydration.

Areas of expertise

audience engagement, Event management, experience design, group engagement, nonverbal communication, research, speaker curation, speaker development, speaker management, storytelling, strategy & operations, team building, team leadership

The TED story

I can't remember when I saw my first TED talk. I'm guessing it was around 2008. I know Ken Robinson and Jill Bolte Taylor were in that early hypnotic soup I stumbled upon, and it hooked me quickly. In 2009, I moved across the country and was trying to meet people in my new city. I attended a TED-related Meetup event and we got to talking. One of them casually mentioned that TED had started this new project called "TEDx" that allowed people to host their own TED-like experiences. We walked wide-eyed right into the experience and the rest is history. I've been organizing and advising for events on and off ever since. There are few projects that reveal so obviously the ways we are all connected. We need that reminder now more than ever.
