Monica Babich

I’m an artist, writer, designer, non-profit director and mother. Bachelor degrees in Humanities and Marketing at the University of Texas helped hone my love of writing and learning about human behavior. A Masters degree in Art History at The Courtauld Institute, University of London, cultivated my research abilities and passion for art and our relationship to it. Interior design school at The Inchbald in London helped me translate the ability to refine and make a house a home for both myself and others, rehabilitating and breathing life into the properties I continue to renovate to sell. As Co-Founder and Director of a non-profit cancer foundation that supports a hereditary blood cancer predisposition disorder, RUNX1-FPD, the RUNX1 Research Program (www.runx1-fpd.org), I know what it’s like to feel the urgency of delivering a cure to the patients whose livelihood depends on our work. A mother to two curious and active boys, I’m daily trying to find the balance of enrichment and rigor with breathing space and play. Finally, as an avid watercolorist, I have to edit my subject-matter to disentangle its beauty from the whole, to translate its being-ness onto a blank page. In short, my life has been an exercise and training in reconciling the desire to do and create with the need to establish order and find space and presence. I know firsthand what it’s like to strive for a simple, sustainable and purposeful life and to repeatedly, epically fail, but I’m getting there!
