Bio

I am an NHS healthcare manager and TEDxNHS co-organiser. I have been involved in TEDxNHS since its very first year in 2016 and have grown up alongside our wonderful social movement. Our annual event has been my favourite moment each year and I am thrilled that we are able to produce our in person event again. I am a storyteller as well as a collector of stories. TEDxNHS has given me some incredible opportunities to meet and connect with change makers and rebels who are influencing my world. At TEDxNHS we are always looking for 'untold stories' and I love the opportunity to find the originals stories and ideas that are not being heard yet. I am especially enthusiastic about elevating the voices of women. I am standing on the shoulders of giants, the women who have gone before me so that I could enjoy my life and liberty now. I want to pay it forward by supporting other women to achieve their ambitions and hope that they will do the same for the next woman.

I'm passionate about

Creating a world in which women can thrive. When we get it right for women, we can get it right for other marginalised communities too.

An idea worth spreading

If we support women to live the best possible lives, it's good for everyone. In the UK, statistically women can expect to live longer than men. If we don't enable women to live healthy and financially stable lives our population pyramid will be crushed by older women in poor health who cannot afford to look after themselves and our younger generations will be forced to support them. This will affect everyone. If we get it right for women, we get it right for everyone.

The TED story

I first became involved in TEDxNHS in 2016 in the very first year our event took place. In 2016 I was in charge of packing goodie bags and switching microphones on and off. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but after the main event I had made new and wonderful friends and seen the power of storytelling for change. In 2017 I was a speaker coach/curator for 2 of our speakers as well as a lead for event production. In 2018 I was license holder and co-organiser for our event. My highlight of this event was presenting a recorded TEDxNHS talk which was my own Grandfather "Grandpa D". Filming his TEDxNHS was the last time I saw Grandpa D before he passed away (aged 98) and I am so grateful to have the memory of that trip and the TEDxNHS talk, of course! In 2019 I remained involved in TEDxNHS as a team member offering support and coaching to our team and speakers. in 2020 as Covid-19 hit myself and the rest of our team returned to the front lines of healthcare delivery. By the end of the summer I felt we were ready to use our TEDxNHS platform to spread some ideas and so mobilised our team to produce TEDxNHS: Unlocked. A Salon series of 3 episodes. We pre-recorded the talks in an empty theatre in central London during lockdown. Each episode featured a talk followed by a curated panel discussion as well as online chat throughout the event. In 2022 I co-led our team to produce our return to in-person events! In order to manage risk this event was a little smaller than our previous in person event. We focused 80% of our efforts on curation and the result has been that 5 out of the 10 talks were highlighted by TED for upload to TED.com. I am hugely proud of the progress TEDxNHS has made and my own development as part of this team. We deliberately rotate our leadership each year but I have remained involved throughout as a speaker coach/curator and partnerships lead. I have also attended numerous other TEDx events. It's really important to me that as TEDx organisers we continue to support and learn from one another.
