Bio
After many years as a scientist and teaching biology, I am now focused on supporting women in STEM on a professional and personal basis. For the past two years, I have been working with amazing women in STEM who are often overwhelmed with academic and scientific pressures and demands. Together, we explore how to deal with these pressures and manage their time and schedules efficiently, so they can stay focused on their overarching goal – to continue to design, create and deliver on their scientific initiatives.
I'm passionate about
The environment, science, conservation, and learning new things.
An idea worth spreading
Women in STEM often struggle with the demands of their workload. Currently the culture of science does not encourage us to ask for help with the daily struggles of doing science. Science is constantly evolving, and it’s time to apply that concept to the way we work as well, we need to support women because we can’t risk losing more women from STEM.

The TED story
I became a TED Fellow in 2009 and some of my best friends are TED Fellows. As the first class of Fellows we all gave short talks to introduce ourselves, back then I used to work on bird conservation on the Hawaiian Islands and on the Galapagos Islands.
