Bio

Kelo lives and works in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is co-founder of the design and branding consultancy Gamatong. She has been a regular at TED since 2007. Formerly with TEDxSoweto, she holds the license for TEDxJohannesburg, is a senior TEDxAmbassador for Sub-Saharan Africa, and is a TED Fellow and TED Resident. Kelo was Co-host of TEDGlobal 2017. She started her career as a banker with FNB, one of South Africa’s major banks. After that, she went on to study and work in Germany. On her return home, she initially focused on international development work before settling in the world of design and entrepreneurship. She is a founding member of Mandela Poster Project, a global design initiative. She is also a trustee of Orange Corners, a Dutch-inspired incubator. Kelo holds a Degree in Finance and Business Administration, and a post-graduate Diploma in Business Administration, both from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. She is an alumnus of Singularity University, the Silicon Valley-based institution focusing on exponential technologies.

The TED story

My TED journey started in 2006 when I came across a few TED Talks online. In 2007, I attended TEDGlobal in Arusha - Tanzania as a Fellow. Since then, I have been a strong advocate in promoting TED and TEDx Africa. I have to date attended 11 TED conferences and organised more than 30 TEDx events.
