Bio
I am at a dynamic and vibrant point in my career and life as an artist and photographer — a nexus formed from the cumulative and varied experiences of the past few decades. It is a time of summoning my creative intuition, seasoned perspectives, and interpersonal skills to foster new work that has meaning, substance, and relevance. • My photographic career spans documentary, fine art, and commissioned work. Since 2010, my primary project focus has been on renewable energy through a long-term aerial project, Changing Perspectives: Renewable Energy & the Shifting Human Landscape. In the process, I have photographed over the United States, Japan, Uruguay, and Chile from helicopters and light airplanes. Currently, I am brainstorming and researching new prospective projects to expand Changing Perspectives' international scope and reach. • ATACAMA: Renewable Energy and Mining in the High Desert of Chile, my forthcoming book, will be published by Steidl in autumn 2023. My previous book, The Evolution of Ivanpah Solar (Steidl, 2015), documented construction of the 392 MW Ivanpah Solar concentrated solar power plant in the Mojave Desert of California. • I present globally at photo festivals, universities, TEDx events, and professional conferences. In addition, my photography is exhibited and published widely in Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Americas. Selected publications include The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Der Spiegel, Le Monde, Newsweek Japan, and WIRED Italia. And the work is in numerous private and public collections, including the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, and the US Library of Congress.

The TED story
I watched hundreds of TED talks before actively engaging in the TED community. In 2014, I gave my first presentation, Changing Perspectives - The Promise and Challenge of Renewable Energy, at TEDxABQ. I was set to attend TED2020 Uncharted through the Vanguard program when the global pandemic hit. I participated remotely in the 2020 conference and built several virtual friendships that have become excellent and valued relationships. At Countdown in Edinburgh, Scotland (2021), my work on Changing Perspectives was shared through a three-minute video presentation, An Aerial Perspective on Renewable Energy. I am glad to be part of this fantastic, positive, forward-looking community!
