I am leadership consultant and coach and founder of Advivum (2005). For me leadership is not a position or title, but an outlook on life and a role we play in the world. It requires commitment to balance, a sense of purpose, strong values and the courage to live authentically. It is a passion for continuous growth and expanding horizons. I believe leadership requires both business/life acumen and personal courage. My passion and gift is designing meaningful experiences which compel people to courageously stretch their boundaries, welcome change and celebrate themselves. My in-depth knowledge of organizational development and leadership practices together with my highly intuitive and candid style allow participants to overcome barriers and learn through self-observation and collective intuition. I love what I do because each day, each client, each learning, is a new adventure. My style of consulting, based on the way I explore the world, is unique. I specialize in architecting learning experiences that satisfy both the left and right brain. Strong design logic allows me to take the principles of a discipline (e.g. photography, art, car racing, travel) and create a metaphor and experience as a foil for personal leadership discovery. For example during “The Art of Leadership” a workshop I held in the National Gallery, a client, in a moment of rage, declared “this is stupid, this art has no purpose, and what am I supposed to do/feel when looking at it anyway?” Her profound discovery was that having always played to what was expected of her, she had no personally defined inner leadership stance and thus rejected all new experiences. It was not the art that was stupid, it was that she felt stupid looking at the art. I asked her how many times had she sent her team away with the same message? I am passionate about theatre and dance. I am an active theatre member (Board, publicity director, season selection) director and actress. The theatre allows me to explore the interrelationship of stories and characters, exposing my thinking to new possibilities and nuances. In creating other worlds, I create space for my community to learn, to laugh and to share. I am a world traveler. I spend most of my spare time immersed in the experience of culture, place, community and history. In the last year I travelled to Iran, Dubai, Switzerland, Cuba, Qatar, Galapagos, Lake Tahoe, London, Nepal all for pleasure. It intrigues me to see the way we are similar and yet hold different approaches to common situations. And now for the bio stuff... Tania is experienced in the design and implementation of leadership renewal and transformation strategies. As founder of Advivum, she brings extensive knowledge and skill in organizational behaviour, leadership practices and adult learning to create the deeply engaging and experiential learning environments needed to effect behavioural change. Her forte is bringing together diverse groups of both public and private sectors for meaningful dialogue. As a coach, Tania brings an in-depth knowledge of organizational development and business practices to her highly intuitive and candid style. Understanding that leadership requires both business acumen and personal courage, Tania has helped many leaders circumvent roadblocks and achieve their business targets. My life focus is to witness and learn from situations and environments that are outside of my experience- where I am challenged to look from a new perspective. Be it a challenging contemporary art exhibit, my first time wearing a hejab while visitng Iran, or chatting with my accountant, I seek to find the life lesson that awaits. TED is a chance to take my personal experiment up a level, to meet others who also seek new perspectives and to challenge my thinking to reach new heights. Why do it? When you Learn you expand your thinking, your awareness and your sense of self. When you Live these lessons, you feel authentic and engaged. Connected to a sense of purpose, you breathe enthusiasm, momentum and conviction, and thus inspire and Lead those around you. Learn, Live, Lead. When you combine all three, your life becomes a contribution, a legacy to those around you. That’s my goal for TED. Well actually, that’s my goal in all parts of my life.
