Vivian Wu is Managing Partner of Ventures at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where she leads all venture investments and acquisitions across the organization. CZI is a new philanthropy that engineers change at scale in order to create a future for everyone. CZI’s mission is to enable all learners to achieve their potential; cure, prevent and manage all disease; and shape a world that is just and inclusive by tackling issues from criminal justice reform to affordable housing and economic opportunity. Their philanthropic toolkit integrates venture investments with grant-making, policy-making and engineering. Vivian has nearly two decades of experience in venture capital and private equity. She was most recently at a family office and previously at TA Associates, Accel Partners, and Morgan Stanley Capital Partners Asia. She started her career as a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Company. Vivian holds an MBA from Harvard University, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S.Econ in finance, Beta Gamma Sigma, and a B.A. in history, Phi Beta Kappa. She also holds an Associateship of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in piano performance. Vivian is on the Executive Committee of the Harvard Business School Alumni Board and the HBS Alumni Association of Northern California Advisory Council. Until recently she has served on the boards of Caliber Schools and Full Circle Fund, and has consulted pro bono for several education non profits including A Better Chance, San Francisco Unified School District, the Clayton Christensen Institute, and San Mateo iZone. She lives in San Francisco and is an avid explorer who has traveled to all seven continents.
