About Eliza
Bio
I was born in Cameroon, raised across Africa and now live in London where I work as a freelance writer, editor and moderator. After seven years at The Guardian (for whom I continue to write), and a short stint at CNN International, I set up The Nzinga Effect, to tell the myriad stories of women from Africa and the diaspora.
Aside from journalism, I am a contributing writer to the 2017 book 'Africa's Media Image in the 21st Century'; I lecture at IULM in Milan, and work as media director with activist collective, The Rules, where I'm building a global network of journalists interested in post-capitalist narratives.
I have one of those accents that dance around, I pepper my English with words borrowed from other languages and would really love more hours in the day so I can spend more time reading graphic novels.
I'm passionate about
Telling stories that challenge myths and stereotypes; the philosophy of Ubuntu; connecting people and ideas; championing African women and women of African descent; learning languages; traveling the world; de-schooling and lately, The Good Wife.
An idea worth spreading
That there are ideas outside of the global north worth sharing
Things you might not know
Resisting the urge to say what I'm good at. Peacocking should always be optional :)
