Bio
Traditional techy's life progression: s/w engineer; MBA; consultant; entrepreneur; angel investor & philanthropist. I founded the online mapping company Multimap.com in 1995, and sold it to Microsoft in 2007.
I'm now an early-stage investor (18 start-ups so far), an adjunct professor at Imperial College Business School and a TEDx organiser - TEDxLondonBusinessSchool.
The TED story
At my first TED (Global 2005) there were questions from the floor - one guy asks Richard Dawkins what one additional sense he would like human beings to gain; Chris pointed out that question was from Craig Venter - one guy who probably could genetically enhance humanity... I realised that this was no ordinary conference; that profound thoughts and profound thinkers were all around me; that it was an extraordinary privilege to be there and that I needed to listen very closely.... to speakers, to questions and to seemingly throwaway lines that might soon change world :)
