An idea worth spreading has as much to do with your idea as it does with you. Being true makes your idea authentic. The aim is to bring your own personality and experiences in the talk. One is required to be honest then only one will be able to connect with the audience. The main component of being authentic has to do with an idea you’re talking about or sharing your experience. You need not be CEO of any company and discuss business, one has to just connect with the audience so that the audience believes in you and learns from the experience shared. The ideas which are worth sharing should be presented in a way that the audience can understand and relate to it. The audience should be able to connect to some part of the story of the speaker. While spreading the ides speaker can make the audience have a feeling of frustration/joy/excitement & may be sadness. Speaker can share his journey, during his journey there would be a situation that would have led to depression/breakthrough. Speaker can speak how he overcame his bad days.The idea/ story shared by the speaker will be his self-discovery. Speaker has to summarise the key message so that the audience go home with a new idea/thought in their minds. Speaker while spreading the idea has to be challenging the audience and will need to be able to back this up! But when done well, presenting an alternative viewpoint, challenging popular assumption and daring the audience to think differently can be very powerful. Think about what people’s gut reaction will be after the talk. A relatable story by the speaker will actually change what people think. The idea which is being spread by the speaker has to be inspiring, as audience loves being inspired. But speaker should not force this, the story/idea may be inspiring without speaker’s realization. Inspiration can be put into the talk that will make it rich and bring the subject to life. Being able to communicate feelings is key – don’t be afraid of showing your feelings; all you need to do is prepare and know the emotional journey you want to take the audience on. Basic storytelling techniques are very important if the speaker wants to give a thrilling talk. At times, the idea which is worth spreading works well with a confession as it creates a sense of intimacy with the audience. When speaker shares something personal, he/she is vulnerable & trusts the audience with feelings. It can be serious, it can be funny (or a bit of both) but helps reduce the distance between the speaker and the audience by getting them to care about the speaker. There are lots of people who can talk about a certain topic or field, the key is to understand what speaker brings to the table that is unique. How speaker can use his/her experiences, feelings, stories, personal style etc to communicate the idea which is worth sharing.
