Dr. Nathalie C. Lilavois has been an educator for over thirty years in a variety of teaching and administrative capacities. Currently, Dr. Lilavois is the District Director for Elementary Curriculum in the Three Village Central School District where she has served as principal for two of their elementary buildings, Mount and Setauket. Under her leadership, Mount Elementary School was named a 2009 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by US Secretary of Education, Arnie Duncan. Prio to her tenure at Three Village CSD, she worked as a reading specialist, Coordinator of Instruction K-12, and taught kindergarten, first grade, and 7th grade science. Dr. Lilavois completed her B.A. with a dual major in elementary education and psychology, and minors in English and Military Science. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts. Her Masters degree in Developmental Psychology is from Teachers College, Columbia University and she completed her Doctorate of Education in Literacy Studies at her alma mater, Hofstra University. Additionally, Dr. Lilavois has both her building and district level supervision and administration licenses as well as a Certificate in the Teaching of Writing from Hofstra University. Dr. Lilavois served as adjunct professor of undergraduate and graduate teacher education courses at Hofstra University, Queens College, York College, and Dowling College. As an avid learner, she continues top explore her areas of interests such as multimedia and educational technology, marketing, and financial literacy. She supports her community through involvement in non -profits that work toward social justice, gender and racial equity. Dr. Lilavois is a former US Army Reserve Captain whose name was added to the Historic Roll of Honor by the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation in June 2011. Dr. Lilavois is the President of the Executive Board of the Malik Melodies Sisterhood Inc. and is a member of the Long Island Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Islip Town NAACP, and the Women's Diversity Network. She is also a proud member of the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Dr. Lilavois has done presentations, professional development workshops, and other speaking engagements in a variety of capacities. Her most recent awards include recognition as a “Woman of Distinction” from the Women on the Rise Network, NY on October 19, 2018; “Friend of Education” Award from the Stony Brook University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa in June 2016 for outstanding contributions to the field of education through leadership, research, and service; and her nomination for the National Life Group, “Life Changer of the Year” award for 16-17. In 2017, she was also recognized for her exemplary commitment to the empowerment of women and registered as a woman of outstanding contribution by the Global Society of Empowered Women. Dr. Lilavois has successfully curated three TEDxDeerPark events: Intermental Symphony in February 2017, Impact in 2018, and What Box? in 2019; she has also hosted TEDxGlobal and TEDxCinema events in her community. After attending TEDWomen in December 2019, she is excited to expand TEDxDeerPark and add TEDxWomen to her repertoire. Dr. Lilavois is known as a mentor and staunch supporter of ensuring that young women understand their cultural heritage and the significant role they play in shaping society. Dr. Lilavois is a funny, loving person who goes out of her way to encourage and motivate others to reach their potential. She is most proud of her daughter, Brianna.
