Bio
Prof. Mel Rosenberg (www.melrosenberg.com) is a microbiologist best known for his research on diagnosis and treatment of bad breath and body odors. His research at Tel Aviv University led to the development of two phase mouthwashes, now popular in the UK (Dentyl pH), US (Colgate Total Advanced Health) and elsewhere. Other innovations include devices that help diagnose bad breath, deodorants, anti-bacterial flavors, and microbial inoculators.Prof. Rosenberg's work has been featured in both popular and scientific media (Scientific American, New Scientist, CNN, Science magazine and BBC News).
Prof. Rosenberg lectures on a variety of topics, including "Bad Breath, Good Life", "The Secrets of Creative People", "What Makes a Popular Song Immortal". He also writes children's books on subjects ranging from science and health to fiction. He is co-founder of Ourboox, a free website for self-publication. He is also a jazz singer and musician.

An idea worth spreading
Bad breath affects at least 25% of the adult population, yet we know relatively little about this common affliction. One of the most perplexing questions is why it is so difficult to smell our own breath. This leads many millions of people to believe that they have terrible halitosis, when little or none can be detected by experts. Conversely millions of people have bad breath without even knowing. We coined the term 'halitophobia' to describe people that worry excessively about having bad breath. In extreme cases they isolate themselves from society. Because people suffering from this condition are confident that they suffer from an organic medical problem, they turn to dentists and physicians instead of seeking attention for their pverriding and exaggerated concern.
Areas of expertise

The TED story
My TED story started when I attended the first amazing TEDx ever held in Israel. I was subsequently invited to speak at several TEDx events. More recently I co-organized threeTEDxSHENKARCOLLEGE with Roi Shternin, Tom Bookshtein and Alon Amit. I have also been fortunate to have written three TED-Ed lessons on dental caries, bad breath and body odor. I attended TED Summit this past summer (an incredible experience). And very recently, I have co-hosted over 15 TED Circles with Richard Lucas.
Things you might not know
Writing stories for children. I began with science books for young children (Bacteria Galore by Sunday at Four), continued with books related to dental health (Witch Wizelda and the Talking Toothbrush, the Amazing Tooth Fairy, etc.) and then went on to write picture books focusing on a variety of characters that need to learn to cope with new situations. I've also been fortunate to create three lessons for TED-Ed. Most of my children's books and videos are available for free on the self-publishing website which I co-founded, Ourboox.
