Bio

Assistant professor in molecular biology at the Hashemite University (Fulbright alumni). Main research field in genome wide association studies concerning diabetes and cancer in ethnic populations in Jordan. Other research includes signaling transduction, stem cells and bioinformatics. Director for TEMPUS funded center for service learning at the Hashemite University. Advocate of teaching using problem based learning, novel reading and drama. Organizer of the fourth scientific research conference on cancer in Jordan. Consultant on a number of committees that range from the higher council for science and technology on identifying the national priorities for research in Jordan to the USA embassy committee for the Arab book program, An advocate of evolution and its compatibility with Islam. Established a network for women mentors and mentees. Established a reading program "We love reading" for children which received the Synergos award for Arab world social innovators and a membership in the Clinton Global initiative 2010.

An idea worth spreading

"We Love Reading" exists to positively impact children throughout Jordan by creating a library in local neighborhoods, thereby actively encouraging each community to share in the experience of storytelling, and creating a life-long enthusiasm for each child to read and acquire knowledge.
