Morrow Cater is the President and Founding Principal of Cater Communications, a bipartisan public policy firm focused almost exclusively on clean energy and climate. She spoke at TED 2013 about bridging the partisan divide over climate. The firm is actively engaged with conservative and nontraditional groups working in the climate and clean energy space. Cater has more than 30 years of experience in communications, journalism and public policy. For over a decade, she produced nationally acclaimed award-winning films on important social and political issues for PBS Frontline and ABC News. She won an Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Research, as well as the DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism for "High Crimes and Misdemeanors," a PBS Frontline 90 minute special with Bill Moyers on the Iran Contra scandal. Prior to that, she was a reporter at The National Journal magazine and The Anniston Star. She worked as Deputy Press Secretary to Congressman Timothy E. Wirth in two congressional campaigns. Throughout her career, Cater has focused on the critical role communications play in achieving social change. Since 1994, she has designed and implemented strategic initiatives and long-term projects for a wide range of clients from the public and private sectors. In 2006, Cater Communications ran the business media campaign for the passage of California’s landmark Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32), and in 2007, the firm ran a media campaign to raise fuel economy standards to 35 miles per gallon by 2020, as mandated by the passage of the U.S. Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA). The firm then ran the nontraditional allies campaign for 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Cater holds an A.B. with honors in Political Theory and Religion from Harvard College. She lives with her husband, Peter Scheer and four children in San Rafael, California.
