Bio
I am a musician, a speed painter and a teacher. I have been traveling the world for many years teaching in IB/PYP schools mostly. As a teacher I have come to really value the amazingness of children's brains and use it to inspire my own creativity. I firmly believe that children are capable of amazing things and adults, especially teachers, have to learn how to step back and see what kids can do more often instead of making them do what we were told and how we were told to do it while we were young.
I'm passionate about
I am passionate about learning. I love being a learner and watching/inspiring others to learn. I have personal goals to always be on the quest for learning something new, be it instruments, art forms, or just different ways to seek happiness.
An idea worth spreading
The power of letting go as a teacher. It may be terrifying, but we need to let kids mess up, we need imperfection, and we need to be surprised.
Areas of expertise
Education, Music, Speed Painting
The TED story
I first became friends with TEDx Kyoto coordinator when I moved to Kyoto to teach at Kyoto International School. She was the first person to welcome me into my new life there. She helped me professionally and personally and became an inspiration to myself and my life partner.
Years after leaving Kyoto I got a notice saying my old students were now hosting their own TEDx Youth event! As a teacher I was very proud and couldn't resist sharing my excitement with my current class. To my surprise the class wanted to take this challenge on and since then we have been engrossed in all things TED.
