Bio
Dr. Laurie Barron is in her twenty-first year in education, serving as a high school English teacher, a middle school assistant principal, and nine years as a middle school principal. She is currently the superintendent of the Evergreen School District in Kalispell, Montana. Barron holds a BSEd in English Education from the University of Georgia, an MEd in Supervision and Administration from the University of West Georgia, and an EdS and EdD in Educational Leadership from the University of Sarasota. She studied abroad at Oxford University. Barron is a National Board Certified Teacher and is a previous Teacher of the Year and STAR Teacher. Barron is the 2013 MetLife/NASSP National Middle Level Principal of the Year. Barron co-authored "What Parents Need to Know about Common Core and Other College- and Career-Ready Standards" as well as numerous education articles and is in the process of publishing her second book. Barron is also a national speaker who provides motivation and professional learning to teachers and administrators through promoting student engagement and voice, shared leadership, data-driven decision making, mastery-based assessment, and inclusive teaching and learning environments. Most importantly, Barron believes that building relationships with students while celebrating what students do right is the key to success in any school.
Barron lives in Whitefish, Montana with her husband Daniel and their daughter Emma, where together they enjoy watching Georgia Bulldogs football, skiing, hiking, camping, rafting, kayaking, and cycling.
