About Cyndi

I am a…

Brainstormer, Business mentor, Change Agent, Connector, Educator/Teacher, Idea generator, Journalist, Life mentor, Technologist, Writer/Editor

Bio

I began my career in hot-type newspapers, and have since worked on just about every media platform: magazines (leading the launch of Time Out in North America), TV (VH1), radio (supervising creation of Martha Stewart's 24-hour SiriusXM channel), and digital (dating back to the early '90s, when I set up Premiere on CompuServe). In 2014-15, I helped Tina Brown launch her new media company and reconceive Women in the World as a channel on NYTimes.com. From 2016-19, I supervised the TED Residency program; now I'm part of TED's curation crew. I serve on boards (including that of my alma mater, Barnard College) and taught for six years at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. I am also a perpetual student, which is why I have been coming to TED since 1994.

I'm passionate about

Let's combine algorithms AND people to re-engineer serendipity into our media diets.

An idea worth spreading

Let's remake the internet so it provides information we can trust!

Areas of expertise

Like all journalists, I know a little about a lot, and I definitely know how to tell a story

The TED story

I have made some of the best friends through TED; it's been a key organizing principle of my adult life. I've learned a ton, and have done my best to share what I've gleaned.
