An idea worth spreading

When you travel you learn, when you learn you travel. The workplace is becoming more and more virtual, with meetings occurring across time zones and organizations and with participants who barely know each other. They will be working in swarms attacking rapidly emerging problems. Many will have neither a company-provided physical office nor a desk, and their work will increasingly happen 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The lines between personal, professional, social and family matters, along with organization subjects, will disappear. Individuals, of course, need to manage the complexity created by overlapping demands, whether from the new world of work or from external (non-work-related) phenomena. Those that cannot manage the underlying "expectation and interrupt overloads" will suffer performance deficits as these overloads force individuals to operate in an over-stimulated (information-overload) state. There will be a craving for connectivity and timeliness for deadlines.

The TED story

Ok, so I have seen more than a fair share of TED talks and addicted to the App on the iPad and iPhone. What really inspires me is the evangelism that I sense with people that have experienced the power of change and sharing ideas. I do however believe in not just sharing the ideas but also collaborating post sharing to bring the ideas to life. That is a technique that we are learning as we move into the discovery and adoption of new collaboration methods and swarm working to bring ideas to life. I have taken initiative to involve my kids and their class in organising (and discovering the power of collaboration) in TEDxYouth@Basel on 20 November 2010 and 20 November 2011 as a mockup and dress rehearsal of TEDxBasel.

Playing the trumpet | scuba diving | getting kids involved in sharing their ideas and seeing what it takes to get them noticed (TEDxYouth@Basel 2010 was the start) | understanding Swiss German.
