Jeremy Thal is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator, and organizer of musical adventures. In 2010 Jeremy co-founded Found Sound Nation (FSN), a New-York based music organization that leverages the power of collaborative sound-making to build community across cultural divides and amplify movements for social justice. Jeremy leads FSN music creation workshops with people from all walks of life, in settings ranging from a juvenile detention centers in the Bronx, to a film school in Haiti, to a technical university in Shanghai, to refugee camp in southern Serbia. Since 2012, FSN has produced the groundbreaking cultural diplomacy projects OneBeat and the Dosti Music Project, in collaboration with the US Department of State. These incubators for music-driven social entrepreneurship bring together sonic changemakers from around the world to collaboratively create original music and to develop civically engaged music initiatives. In 2019 Jeremy co-founded The Interlude with Michelle Moghtader, after having met at TED in 2017. The Interlude offers creativity workshops that use the power of music to open ourselves up to our own expressive potential, build compassionate community, and tap the deepest collaborative potential in teams. Offered to companies and individuals, Interlude programs are open to musicians of all levels, from ukulele novices to Juilliard grads. As a horn player and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy has recorded and toured with indie rock heavyweights Jeff Mangum, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The National, and he leads his own band, Briars of North America.
