Barbara Bridges lives in Denver, Colorado where she founded Women + Film in 2006, a non-profit organization that uses films by and about women to entertain, educate and ignite discussion. Women+Film is one of the Denver Film Society’s most popular programs, which includes the annual Women+Film Festival in April, a platform in the Denver Film Festival in November and screenings throughout the year. Barbara joined the Women at Sundance Leadership Council as another way to support women filmmakers. In addition, she is co-authoring a book that shows the timeline of women’s contributions to the movies, from silent films to the present. Barbara was named by The Denver Post as one of Colorado’s Top Thinkers in Arts and Culture. Barbara has been an entrepreneur, businesswoman and activist. She co-founded Advance Geophysical Corporation in 1980, which developed software for oil and gas exploration, where she served as Vice President. She has served on such boards as The Denver Film Society, The White House Project and chaired the board of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado. Her awards include 21 Leaders for the 21st Century from Women’s eNews, Woman of Distinction from the Girl Scouts, and Distinguished Alumni from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Barbara strongly believes in and finds her passion in the power of stories, the strength of women and the need for social justice.
