Bio

Yvonne Welbon is a Creative Producer at Chicken & Egg Pictures and an award-winning independent filmmaker who has produced and distributed over 20 films including Living With Pride: Ruth Ellis @ 100 (winner of 10 best documentary awards—including the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary), The New Black (about the fight for marriage equality in the African American community directed by Yoruba Richen), and Sisters in Cinema (a documentary on the history of black women feature-film directors). Her films have screened on HBO, BET, PBS, Starz/Encore, TV-ONE, IFC, Bravo, the Sundance Channel, and in more than 100 film festivals around the world. Her producing projects include Zeinabu irene Davis's Sundance feature Compensation, Cheryl Dunye's HBO film Stranger Inside, and Thomas Allen Harris' E Minha Cara/That's My Face. Originally from Chicago, Welbon received a B.A. from Vassar and then spent six years in Taipei, Taiwan, where she learned Mandarin and founded/published a premiere arts magazine. She returned to the USA and completed an M.F.A. at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Ph.D. at Northwestern University. Welbon is also a graduate of the American Film Institute's Directing Workshop for Women.
