Philippa Neave

Born in France to a British father and a Danish mother, Philippa Neave grew up bi-lingual and studied Arabic at Durham University in the UK. She became a journalist specialising in the Middle East. After one and a half years in Cairo, she became a foreign correspondent based in Rome, then Paris and New York for a news agency specializing in feature articles. She then worked as Middle East Director for the international arm of British Quakers and was based in Beirut for five years. From her base in Paris since 2004 she has worked in the field of electoral assistance for the United Nations and other international organisations, mainly as a Public Outreach expert. She has worked on elections in a number of countries including Afghanistan, Madagascar, Jordan, Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt. In 2014 she completed a 3 years project with the UNited Nations and published the first Arabic lexicon of electoral terminology covering eight Arab countries. In addition, she has an interest in photography and has worked with several leading photographers including Stanley Greene with whom she wrote the text of the book “Open Wound” (10 years of war in Chechnya) which was awarded the 2004 World Press first prize. She worked for several years for Paris Photo as well as Art Paris Art Fair. She has travelled extensively throughout the world and speaks five languages fluently, with good knowledge of several others.
