Since the day I was born, I have been blessed with a life that has been filled with diversity and opportunity at every juncture. I have been fortunate in that I have always been able to see the opportunity or learning in every situation. I was born outside of Montreal. At age eight moved to The Netherlands, and then went to a boarding school in Switzerland (quite interesting in the 1960's). I experienced the ultimate in cultural contrasts when I moved from Geneva Switzerland to Monks Corner, South Carolina in 1969. I attended High School and College in both New York, Missouri and California. I dropped out of College to open a restaurant (that failed miserably), and then found work in the motion picture industry running film between the set and airport for an on-location production. Through a series of serendipitous encounters, I ultimately ended up in the mail room at Warner Brothers where I met the head of make-up for the studio. He offered me the opportunity to learn the craft and I became a make-up artist. End of act one. I decided after several years that the life of a make-up artist for the most part was not the most exciting (and I was not the world's greatest make-up artist), so I returned to university and received a business degree. I went on to work in several businesses, ultimately starting an on-line division for Dun and Bradstreet in the pre-internet world. When that business was sold, I decided to write a book about one of my passions, creativity. I also started speaking extensively about the topic. It was also around this time that the Internet started to heat up, and I was asked to speak and consult on the web. That created a great business, that led me to develop and patent an email marketing methodology that led my wife and I to start SubscriberMail, a leading email marketing service provider, which we sold to a public company in 2010 Along the way, I married my wife (33 years ago), and had two wonderful children (both adults now).
