Bio
I’m looking forward to continue supporting as a TED Patron this year for my 14th TED conference of some kind and anticipating a revitalizing conference experience.
I’m also always on the lookout for how I, and ISM Creative, could help with innovative projects end-to-end from idea to launch, and hearing about alternative investments.
About me:
Scott believes that if the ultimate nature of reality is uncertain, we have to believe that anything is possible. Bringing together art, philosophy, creative technologies, education, business and design, he founded the ISM creative consultancy and incubator to help build, launch and scale social innovations through cross-disciplinary collaboration and cross-stakeholder ecosystem building. He works with governments, nonprofits, universities, corporates, startups, funders, and trend-setting communities. He has collaborated with organizations like TED, Deloitte, CERN, Google.org, Smithsonian, Biennial Foundation, Swissnex, TRIUMF (Canada’s particle accelerator centre), the Business Development Bank of Canada, the Swiss Consulate, and Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
More about me:
I founded ISM Creative, a creative consultancy turning early concepts into scalable innovations. From early stage startups to mature organizations innovating internally, we specialize in end-to-end product and organizational development. ISM houses a creative agency, a business incubator, a partner ecosystem, and spinout platforms for corporate solutions, investments, global markets, and a venture studio. Our incubator is one of Canada's Designated Organizations to bring foreign owned companies to Canada, and is part of Canada's National Angel Capital Organization. With a focus on design research, business development, and ecosystem building, we bring a range of projects to life from grassroots community to public diplomacy and lots in between.
We love social innovation and favor SDG or ESG aligned projects as well as creative industries. Projects we have worked on include:
-In partnership with the Consulate General of Switzerland, we co-launched the Innovation Fest event series to build on bilateral relations between Switzerland and Canada in science, technology, and education, anchored by a partnership with CERN.
-Co-launched the Racial Equity Accelerator to provide influential nonprofits and corporations with advanced technology (AI, data science, coding) to fast-track their work on diversity and inclusion, sponsored with technology from Google and AWS alongside developing a pool of philanthropic grants and corporate co-investments.
-Under the recent multi-million dollar federal economic development investment to to advance 300 Black-led businesses in Western Canada, we operationalized and accelerated the launch of BIPOC Foundation and its flagship accelerator program.
-Run clusters of university housed R&D through collaborations with academia, industry and government.
-As a flagship project, we're launching ISM Creative Academy -- a school for early childhood education with a Montessori and Reggio inspired curriculum focused on the power of creativity.
As an Arts & Culture Curator at TRIUMF Lab (Canada's particle accelerator centre), I work on science communication to inspire discovery and innovation, attract the next generation of scientists, and create greater access to STEM. We revamped the lab's Arts & Culture vertical, and developed modernized ways to communicate the value of science such as LiDAR 3D scanning workflows to create virtual access to new areas of the lab, and creating courseware for scientists to apply design thinking to science communication.
I was also an artist and content manager for Leaning Out of Windows, a collaboration with TRIUMF to explore models of collaboration between artists and physicists. As a digital artist working with video, VFX & animation, VR, sound design and music, my work has been included at the TED2016 Conference venue, Venice Biennale Annual Reception, the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture inaugural exhibit and permanent collection, and others like Spark Animation Festival. As a VFX Artist, I worked on prototyping the emerging generation of leading edge procedural animation and dynamics simulation tools for SideFX Software.
Other roles I take on are film & animation faculty at Emily Carr University of Art + Design where I led XR research and development projects via its media lab, MBA faculty at University Canada West, Founder of TEDxEmilyCarrU (formerly TEDxECUAD), and an ESL educator in the Vancouver BC area creating collaborative learning spaces for international students studying English for their professional, educational and personal journeys.
My educational background is in fine arts, philosophy, filmmaking, visual effects for film, media arts, education, entrepreneurship and global business.
I'm passionate about
Design thinking, social entrepreneurship, subatomic particle collisions, creative technologies, ecosystem building, modal music
An idea worth spreading

The TED story
I am entering my second decade of being in the TED community and continue looking forward to its next chapters to come. I used TED Talks as ESL teaching tools for several years and developed a curiosity to get more involved. The opportunity then came up for me to create video installation artwork for the TED2016 venue to interpret the theme "Dream" through an artistic lens. The experience inspired me to launch TEDxECUAD (now TEDxEmilyCarrU) which is situated in an art and design university. It's led to a lot of local innovation, interesting collaborations with the TEDx team at TED to share innovation with the broader TEDx community, and I continue to enjoy being part of projects that emerge from the various TED conferences. I'm happy to have put together TED2022 and TED2023 Discovery Sessions for TEDsters to visit TRIUMF (Canada's particle accelerator centre) to take a bespoke deep dive behind the scenes of scientific discovery in some of the largest and most remarkable machines ever built. I'm happy to support TED as a Patron in 2025.
