Bio

Educated in Canada and England, BA + MA Pembroke College, Cambridge where I am a Fellow Commoner. Founded Blyth in 1977 involved primarily in high latitude adventure travel and international education. Blyth Academy was founded in 2004 and is Canada's largest private school group + schools in the US, Qatar and Italy. Philanthropic commitments include Cambridge University and Bhutan-Hon. Consul General in Canada for Bhutan and Chair Bhutan Canada Foundation. Recently sold Blyth Academy to Providence Equity Partners and while remaining Chair have opened Blyth China (with Zhen Fund)and Viet Nam to bring engaging education and critical thinking to new schools opening in September 2019

I'm passionate about

Learning, Africa (the good,bad and in between), Bhutan, expanding my comfort zone, health and fitness, family and friendships.

An idea worth spreading

We are deeply interested in the neurology of personalized learning and individuated teaching techniques. New technologies in VR, AI etc are starting to impact these areas and taken altogether will have transformative impact.

The TED story

I accompanied the PM of Bhutan to TED Vancouver in 2016 and had a great time. When I saw that TEd was returning to Africa and Tanzania, in particular, I knew I wanted to be there.
