Yoshioka founded “Peace Boat” in 1983 . Based in Tokyo, Peace Boat has since sailed on 90 voyages and over 60 times around the world, using a large passenger ship and a unique social business model to promote sustainability, peace and international cooperation. It’s inspired over 60,000 participants in its 30-year history, and involved 100,000s more in people-to-people programs in more than 100 ports worldwide. Peace Boat has developed into Japan’s largest cruising organization, and is now taking its next radical step: building the world’s greenest cruise ship. Yoshioka is spear-heading Peace Boat’s Ecoship project, which will launch a historic and stunning biophilic cruise vessel within the year 2020. Yoshioka has addressed United Nations’ bodies on issues including a culture of peace, and been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008. He also led disaster-relief efforts following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, dispatching over 14,000 volunteers from Peace Boat’s worldwide network to the stricken area.
