I've spent my career at the intersection of technology and ethics, from working with tech giants like Google and Facebook as Head of Strategy for the European Broadcasting Union to evaluating research proposals for the European Commission's Ethics & Integrity Team. My work (and mission) now focuses on what I call "The Ethics of Example", the idea that our daily interactions with AI are unconsciously shaping the emotional intelligence of future superintelligence. This realization came in 2019 when I watched Sophia, a humanoid robot, treat our scripted interactions as real memories. Through my manifesto "Educating a Superintelligence" and "EducatingAI Toolkit," I provide both theory and practice for conscious AI interaction. I'm a three-time author on ethics and emerging technologies, including "Exponential Ethics" (published in English and Chinese). A former TV journalist for RAI, the Italian national TV, curator of 5 TEDx events, and university professor in Geneva and Guangzhou, I'm currently developing "AI and Mothers," exploring how we can teach children conscious AI interaction from an early age. I believe the most powerful AI governance happens not in policy meetings, but in the split second before we hit "send" on our next prompt.

Ethics must keep up with the exponential progress of technology; it must leapfrog and facilitate public debates among influential contemporary thinkers, scientists, artists, engineers, philosophers, and science-fiction authors. This will be the most pioneering decade in history. Exponential technologies will lead to exponential innovation. We should strive to take this journey, conscious of the risks we are facing, and raise a call to action for openly discussing the social repercussions these technologies could have if left only to their “makers”—a call to action to “Think Ethically”
