Bio
Joe Gebbia is businessman, designer and entrepreneur. He’s the Co-founder of Airbnb and serves as Founder and Chairman of Airbnb.org. He brings design practice into everything he works on, from building brands, to user interfaces, and documentary filmmaking.
In 2008, Airbnb started out of the necessity to pay rent wIth his co-founders, Brian Chesky and Nathan Blecharczyk. What began as three airbeds, a pop-tart breakfast, welcoming hosts and an insider’s guide to the city, is now a global phenomenon of hospitality, human connectivity and economic stimulation. Today Airbnb has spread to nearly 5 million listings in more than 191 countries changing how people trust each other.
In 2020, he launched Airbnb.org to connect those in crisis with places for them to stay as part of Airbnb’s emergency response efforts related to natural disasters, and most recently the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the platform assists in the temporary housing of refugees and asylum seekers, housing over 100,000 people in 110 countries.
Joe began his life as an artist and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where he earned dual degrees in Graphic Design and Industrial Design, and currently serves on the RISD Board of Trustees. Joe is an Airbnb.org Host, signatory to the Giving Pledge, and serves on the Advisory Council for the UNHCR.
