Bio
I decided to become a geneticist and feed the world through science at the advanced age of 13. Twenty years later I am dedicated instead to making sure that other scientists and potential scientists from the developing world have the tools and training to make those advances themselves. As a graduate student I founded Seeding Labs - through which I have equipped research laboratories in 16 countries using surplus equipment from US labs. I am even more concerned with connecting people - the scientists who donate their surplus with the scientists who receive it - to create a truly inter-connected scientific community that spans the globe.
I'm passionate about
Ensuring that where you are born does not limit your educational opportunities. Brilliant people are born everywhere; they should all have equal chance to use that talent.
An idea worth spreading
A science peace corps. For over 30 years we have embraced the idea of sending young people around the world to work in poor rural communities as a great way to foster international understanding. It's time to send young scientists as our next group of ambassadors. Scientists speak a shared language no matter where they are from. And by working together, not only will global science students foster understanding and new relationships, they will be able to tackle some of the most pressing problems our world faces -- curing diseases, caring for the environment, sustainably feeding our growing populations.
