Petros Petrikkos

Petros is a student of International Relations at Queen Mary, University of London. He serves in his role as Secretary for TEDxQMUL 2016. He is currently a Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty Representative within the Queen Mary Students' Union, a Senior Course Representative for International Relations, and a Branch Editor at the not-for-profit organisation Politics Made Public. As a Cypriot citizen, he has previously worked as an intern at the Cyprus House of Representatives, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus. He completed a 2-year term in the National Guard as a Sergeant. As a peace-builder, he has been involved in rapprochement between the two communities of Cyprus and is a founding member of a bi-communal organisation. Petros is hyper-involved and has been active in a number of projects, ranging from journalism and media, to campaigns, charity work, and has hosted and chaired fruitful discussions with panels addressing issues such as refugee rights and humanitarian aid.

I first watched TED talks on YouTube when I was still at high school back home in Cyprus. Ever since, I was fascinated by the motivation and the creativity, as well as the communication skills each speaker was able to deliver and showcase during TED and TEDx events. While in my 2nd year at Queen Mary, University of London, I realised that I wanted to be part of this fascinating community. At first, I was approached by a friend, asking to collaborate on a TEDx project. A few days later, I found out that another friend of mine had already secured a license which allows us to host TEDxQMUL. I knew from before that they had already hosted TEDxQMUL 2015, so I decided to apply for a position as part of the organising team, and guess what - I became the Secretary! It was absolutely a very exciting moment for me! Right now, we are working on TEDxQMUL 2016, under the theme "FORCE". Looking forward to inspiring, and educating!
