Dr. Nnanake-Abasi O. Offiong is an environmental chemist, educator, and emerging leader in sustainable chemistry whose work advances innovative solutions to environmental challenges through research, education, and international collaboration. He earned his PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Uyo, Nigeria, and has undertaken advanced research and professional training in South Korea and China, experiences that have shaped his global perspective on scientific research and collaboration.
Currently, he is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Sciences at Topfaith University, Nigeria, where he leads multidisciplinary research and mentors the next generation of scientists. His research focuses on the environmental fate of emerging contaminants, green chemistry, and the development of sustainable materials for environmental remediation and energy applications. He has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, contributed chapters to scholarly books, and presented his work at major international conferences.
Dr. Offiong is also recognized for his contributions to the global chemistry community through scientific leadership and professional service. He has received several prestigious international honors, including the American Chemical Society Younger Chemists Leadership Development Award (USA) and the Water Young Researcher Award (Switzerland), to mention a few. He serves on the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio), previously served as a Guest Editor for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC journal), and is a pioneer Board Member of the African Younger Chemists Network. Through his research, mentorship, and international engagement, Dr. Offiong is helping shape a more sustainable future while strengthening chemical sciences education and research across Nigeria, Africa, and the global scientific community.
