Bio
I am Nevin Ural. I’m Turkish. I live in İzmir, Turkey. I’m Turkish language and literature teacher. İ like music, cinema, theatre, travel and reading book.
I'm passionate about
I am passionate about education, human psychology, personal growth, and helping people feel understood. I care deeply about emotional well-being, meaningful communication, and creating positive change in everyday life. I also enjoy learning about culture, literature, and the emotional stories behind people’s experiences.
An idea worth spreading
We spend years teaching children mathematics, language, and science, but we rarely teach emotional resilience, self-worth, or how to cope with failure. I believe education should not only prepare students for exams, but also for life.
Through my experiences as an educator and observer of human behavior, I have seen how a single encouraging sentence can change a child’s future. My idea is that compassionate communication in education has the power to heal anxiety, build confidence, and create stronger societies.
If we change the way we speak to children and to each other, we can change generations.
The TED story
My TED story begins with becoming the mother of a child with Down syndrome. At first, I believed I would be the one teaching him about life. Instead, he became the person who transformed my understanding of humanity, patience, resilience, and unconditional love.
Raising a child with special needs is often described only through its challenges. Yes, the journey can be emotionally and physically demanding, but it also reveals extraordinary beauty that society often overlooks. My son not only changed my life, but also deeply influenced the people around him through his honesty, joy, and ability to connect with others without prejudice.
Over the years, I worked on projects and awareness activities related to children with Down syndrome. I was invited as a speaker to a European Union project in Poland, where participants from many countries were deeply moved by the experiences and work I shared. That experience showed me that personal struggles, when shared sincerely, can inspire and guide others across cultures and borders.
Today, I want to share the life lessons I learned through this journey: that differences are not weaknesses, empathy can transform societies, and what may seem like a difficult path can become a source of strength, purpose, and hope for others.
I believe my story can encourage families who are at the beginning of this journey and help society see individuals with Down syndrome not through limitations, but through their unique ability to teach us what truly matters in life.
