Jazmin Lovett is a creative, passionate advocate, and driven leader with a deep commitment to service and community empowerment. A graduate of Morgan State University with a B.A. in Sociology, Jazmin was an active member of the Student Government Association and participated in several campus organizations. She is also a Fall 2023 initiate of the Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., an experience that has been a cornerstone of her collegiate journey. Jazmin has had the honor of serving as a local titleholder for Towson and Baltimore in the Miss Black DMV Pageant, a state preliminary under the Miss Black USA pageant system. As a titleholder, she dedicated her time to community service and founded her own initiative, Project Hydration, in June 2024. This project focuses on providing hydration to the homeless community in downtown Baltimore. Through her efforts and those of her team, they have distributed over 700 water bottles in just two summers. Currently, Jazmin is preparing to further her education by pursuing MBA/JD programs, with aspirations of working in the sports industry. In addition to her academic pursuits, she serves as Co-Producer and Coordinator for TEDxMorganStateUniversity.

I am passionate about community service because it gives me the opportunity to give back to underserved communities in meaningful and lasting ways. Through service, I have learned the true value of compassion, teamwork, and responsibility, as well as the importance of listening to the needs of others. Community service has shown me that even the smallest actions whether offering help, time, or encouragement can create a powerful impact. I am committed to using my time, energy, and skills to support those in need, strengthen our community, and contribute to positive change. This passion continues to motivate me to serve with empathy, dedication, and purpose.

An idea worth spreading is that mentorship serves as a bridge builder to the next generation. Today’s youth are facing a rapidly changing world, and it’s more important than ever to ensure they see positive role models who not only believe in them but also in their abilities. Mentorship is not just about giving advice or having all the answers sometimes, it’s simply about being there for someone, offering guidance, and helping them navigate their journey. It’s about showing them that they are capable and that success doesn’t happen overnight, but through persistence and dedication. As someone who has both benefited from mentorship and become a mentor myself, I’ve seen the incredible impact it has. I was lucky to have a professor who acted as a mentor, someone who always believed in my potential and helped me realize that I had the tools within me to achieve greatness. She never made me feel like I couldn’t succeed; instead, she encouraged me to apply myself and work through the challenges. That belief in me, even when I doubted myself, helped me reach my goals and taught me that the journey to success is about more than just talent it’s about resilience and a willingness to learn and grow. As a mentor now, I’ve experienced firsthand the power of just being there for someone who needs guidance. You don’t always need to have all the answers, and that’s okay. What matters is being a consistent presence, showing up, and helping someone find their own way. Mentorship also teaches you the importance of networking building connections, learning from others, and knowing when to reach out for help. It’s about fostering an environment where people can grow, make mistakes, and still feel supported. Mentorship is a key to success, and it’s a vital part of life’s journey. It’s about empowering others to believe in themselves and guiding them when they need it most. Just as I had a mentor who helped me, I now get to pass that same support forward. It's a cycle that strengthens our communities and ensures that the next generation has the tools they need to succeed. Mentorship is more than just teaching; it’s about inspiring confidence, building trust, and reminding others that they are capable of achieving anything they set their minds to.

My TED journey began by listening to a friend and the organizer of TEDxMorganStateUniversity Takiya Eastmond, who carried a powerful dream: to create a safe space where students could be heard. She is a passionate advocate for community, creativity, and the importance of amplifying voices. Inspired by her vision, I was honored to join the TEDxMorganStateUniversity team as Co-Producer and Co-Event Coordinator. I am grateful to work alongside a dedicated team that is bringing the TEDxMorganStateUniversity vision to life and creating meaningful spaces for untold stories to be shared.

People don’t know that I am really good at roller skating and musical theater. I grew up with a rink less than 5 minutes from my house and went all the time with friends. My love for singing started at home with my mom, who constantly played Broadway music. That exposure led me to develop a strong passion for musical theater and music as a whole. I sang in choir in middle school and continued with choir in high school, which helped me grow both vocally and artistically.
