Bio

I am currently a student at Emory & Henry College, working towards a BA in mathematics and mass communications. As I'm sure it's true with most people, I don't exactly know what I want to be when I grow up, but I am slowly figuring it out each day. I hope to one day be a graphic designer so that I can use my visual communication skills and community leadership to encourage positivity and, in the words of Kid President, "give the world a reason to dance."

I'm passionate about

I am passionate about human connections. The relationships we form in our lifetime are the key to survival. We as humans need each other for support, love, inspiration, and to go beyond ourselves. Life is about how we treat people. We need to ask ourselves, are we connecting and understanding those around us or are we oblivious. Do our actions empower others to know that they have what it takes to make a difference, that we are all important and unique. Are we showing that the differences we find between each other are not something to shame out of fear, but rather something to celebrate. Many times, especially in modern day life, only the hurt and the suffering are highlighted in society. I want to promote the spread of ideas on change, news of how people are making the world a better place, and inspiration so we can positively impact the community around us. I’ve heard people say that we should all be out in the world doing everything we can to help those around us. And what I believe is missing from that is the fact that we are already “in the world”, what we need now is to become aware of this and act. Some things that I have done in my own life to reflect this are, tutoring ESL (English as a Second Language) students at a local elementary school, planning service projects for groups on campus, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.Through engaging with others, we can build stronger relationships. By establishing those relationships, and establishing trust in the humanity that connects us all, we can work together to act. We can work together to make the world a better place for us all.

An idea worth spreading

Be awesome.

The TED story

I want to inspire people. I believe that every person has something amazing to share. There are so many people with inspiring stories and ideas that we don’t usually have the opportunity to hear. Ideas are the first step to changing the world. I personally believe that one person can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but they can change the whole world for at least one person. I think that is what a TEDx event is all about, giving people the opportunity to share their uniqueness in hopes of inspiring someone else to engage in positive change.
