About Shahir
Bio
As an international student and Computer Science major at Texas Tech, Shahir Tahiri understands firsthand the complexities of transformation. Now serving as the President of TEDxTexasTech, Shahir has dedicated his tenure to exploring the theme "Who We Become." He views the TEDx stage as a vital "Third Space" where research meets heart, and where the Red Raider community can engage with the choices that define our future. Outside of his leadership role, he is a student of Machine Learning, an enthusiast of digital art, and a lover of Rumi’s poetry, always searching for the next idea that will change the way we live.
I'm passionate about
Understanding human excellence and its inherent flaws. I aspire to a future where hate is not fought with hate, but transformed by love. I envision a world where humanity no longer sees itself as scattered, random patches of existence defined by fundamental differences, but rather as a single collective thread woven into a shared present and future. In my personal life, I am driven to help solve the mystery of consciousness, and whether that spark can ever truly be replicated by machines through pure calculation.
An idea worth spreading
While hate often spreads by default, love and collective prosperity require intentional architecture. Having navigated life across Afghanistan, Turkiye, and the United States, I have learned that we have more in common with each other than different. I am convinced that the flaws of our nature do not dictate our future. If we can apply the same responsible leadership that put us on the moon to the expansion of human empathy, we can move our collective consciousness beyond our current horizons, and perhaps, one day, beyond our solar system.
