Bio

Hi, my name is Jaya Surjani, and i am a Professor at MCNUJC (Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication). I've been a professor for the last 25 years and primarily teach advertising and content creation centric courses.

I'm passionate about

I am deeply passionate about the power of stories to shape perception and inspire change. Over the past twenty five years of teaching advertising and content creation, I have witnessed how ideas, when communicated creatively and ethically, can influence minds, cultures, and even policies. What excites me most is guiding students to discover that advertising is not just about selling but about storytelling with purpose, empathy, and authenticity. Seeing young communicators transform raw ideas into compelling narratives that move audiences keeps my passion alive. Every classroom discussion, campaign critique, and creative brief reaffirms my belief that communication, when done thoughtfully, can be one of the most powerful forces for connection and positive impact in society.

An idea worth spreading

Unlearning- A crucial skill in the 21st Century. We explore the importance of letting go of preconceived notions in the extremely dynamic modern day world. In today’s fast-changing world, true growth depends not just on what we learn, but on what we are willing to unlearn. From childhood, we are taught to gather knowledge, yet rarely taught how to question or discard outdated beliefs. Unlearning isn’t about forgetting—it’s about re-evaluating, updating our mental “software,” and making space for new ideas. Whether it’s an organization clinging to old business models, a teacher holding onto rote methods, or an individual stuck in past definitions of success, resistance to unlearning blocks progress. In every sphere education, work, relationships, and society the ability to let go of what no longer serves us defines adaptability. It takes courage to admit that what once worked may not work now, but that courage is what fuels innovation and empathy. In essence, learning helps us survive, but unlearning helps us evolve and in the 21st century, evolution belongs to those who can unlearn the fastest.
