Bio

Tonya L. Henderson is an expert in organization development and change. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she works as a freelance researcher and consultant. As a Doctor of Management and a graduate of the US Naval Academy, she blends original research with a military officer’s practicality. A veteran of the aerospace industry, her work is informed by multi-disciplinary experience, education, and scholarship. Tonya loves exploring the ways that groups of people self-organize and how repeated patterns of perceptions, communications, and behaviors offer clues to organizational values and outcomes. An experienced keynote speaker, Dr. Henderson has been featured at TEDxColoradoSprings and the Story Project. She enjoys teaching business research, management, and strategy and currently serves as the Professional Development Workshop Chairman for the Academy of Management’s Management Consulting Division. Dr. Henderson has coauthored two books, numerous book chapters, papers, and articles and is currently working on an e-book titled “100 Time Hacks for Insanely Busy Women.” Links to her blog, publications, and business endeavors can be found at www.tonya.today. Currently serving as the Curator for TEDxColoradoSprings, she has thoroughly enjoyed working with a team of talented volunteers to create this year’s event, themed “To Be of Service.”

I'm passionate about

Clarity for organizations and individuals. That starts with pattern-spotting.

An idea worth spreading

Groups of people create scalable, self-similar patterns of behavior, communication, and perception—not unlike fractals elsewhere in nature.

The TED story

I took the central idea from my dissertation to the TEDxColoradoSprings stage in 2015 and had so much fun that I decided to become curator for 2016.
