Jasmine Mungai

My name is Jasmine Mungai, a junior at Nagoya International School in Japan, born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya.

I’m deeply interested in understanding how history and power have shaped the international order we see today, particularly the long-term effects of colonialism in Africa. I explore these interests through reading, research and more, eager to learn more about them in various contexts and forms.

For as long as I can remember, music, of every genre, has always been an integral part of my life. Growing up in Kenya and learning about my culture, people and customs through music grew my passion, and my love for singing. I particularly enjoy jazz, R&B; i often feel that music, no matter what genre it may be, speaks to and for the soul.
