Bio

Deva Menéndez Teleña is an Assistant Professor in the field of Naval Architecture at the Department of Nautical Science and Technology, University of Oviedo. She holds a Second Officer license from the Merchant Marine and earned her PhD through the Interuniversity Program in Nautical Studies, Marine, and Naval Radioelectronics at the University of Oviedo. Her research focuses on maritime transport, biological contamination, and seafarers' wellbeing. She is also a member of the Medialab Chair at the University of Oviedo, where she engages in science communication and outreach activities.

An idea worth spreading

The importance of maritime transport worldwide, the fact that the movement of goods can cause biological pollution by transferring species from one region to another, and that the large number of ships is operated by seafarers who often face demanding work due to challenging conditions on board.
