About Andres Sebastian

I am a…

Business leader, Educator/Teacher, Engineer, Investor, Project manager

Bio

I am a Petroleum Engineer and Master of Business Administration (MBA) with over a decade of professional and academic experience, combining technical expertise in energy and engineering with advanced skills in business management, higher education, and scientific research. I have built a strong career in university teaching and educational leadership, currently serving as a part-time professor at the Business School of the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador (UIDE), where I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in calculus, financial mathematics, business analytics, probability and statistics, research methodology, and strategic management. My teaching philosophy is rooted in innovation, student-centered learning, and the integration of digital tools such as Power BI, SPSS, Jamovi, Moodle, Canva, and Turnitin to enhance academic performance and research quality. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from the prestigious Escuela Politécnica Nacional and an MBA from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, complemented by extensive pedagogical training through international certifications and diplomas in conceptual pedagogy, educational coaching, multiple intelligences, neurodidactics, and online teaching methodologies. I am deeply committed to academic excellence and continuous professional development, having completed over 1,500 hours of specialized training in education and research, including the "Starter Pack Enseñanza en Línea" at UIDE, the "Diplomado Docente Tutor Integral Avanzado" from Fundación Marcelino Muñoz, and the "Especialización Internacional en Metodología de la Investigación Científica" from GEM Perú, all of which reinforce my expertise in modern teaching strategies, thesis supervision, and student mentorship. My academic leadership extends beyond the classroom: I currently serve as Academic Coordinator and Research Unit Coordinator at Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo, where I lead institutional research projects, guide students and faculty in scientific writing, and promote a culture of innovation and inquiry. I am also the coordinator of the "Rumbo Universitario y Alumni" program, supporting student career development and university readiness. With a strong research background, I have authored and co-authored multiple scientific articles indexed in recognized databases such as Latindex, Dialnet, and Google Scholar, covering impactful topics including strategic planning, quality management, agribusiness entrepreneurship, renewable energy (particularly biomass and biofuels), and educational quality control. My work has been published under ISBN and ISSN identifiers, contributing to academic discourse in Latin America. I am currently expanding my research profile with advanced training in quantitative research methods, applied statistics, and scientific writing, positioning myself for future publications in Scopus-indexed journals. My technical skills include advanced data analysis with SPSS, Jamovi, and Power BI, geospatial analysis with ArcGis, and mastery of Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel for financial and business modeling. Fluent in Spanish (native) and English (B2 level), I integrate global perspectives into my teaching and research. My interdisciplinary background—spanning petroleum engineering, business administration, and education—enables me to bridge technical and managerial domains, making complex concepts accessible and relevant to students and professionals alike. I am passionate about fostering critical thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, and lifelong learning, and I continue to grow as an educator, researcher, and academic leader committed to excellence, innovation, and social impact.

I'm passionate about

I'm passionate about making a difference—about finding new ways to improve systems, transform education, and generate knowledge that matters. I’m deeply driven by numbers, data, and research, not for their own sake, but for the power they have to reveal insights, guide decisions, and create real impact. At the same time, I’m equally passionate about the human side of progress: mentoring students, empowering teachers, and fostering a culture where curiosity and critical thinking thrive. I believe that true innovation happens at the intersection of logic and empathy, where analytical rigor meets purpose and people. That’s why I’m committed to advancing scientific research in secondary education, integrating technology with pedagogy, and leading with a vision where excellence, creativity, and humanity go hand in hand.

An idea worth spreading

The TED story

My TED story begins in Ambato, where I attended a TEDx event organized by the Universidad Técnica de Ambato (UTA). From the very first talk, I was captivated—not only by the ideas being shared, but by the precision, clarity, and purpose behind each presentation. What struck me most was how complex concepts were distilled into powerful, concise messages—much like scientific abstracts: structured, impactful, and designed to spark thought. As someone deeply passionate about research, data, and education, I saw a profound connection between the rigor of scientific communication and the art of storytelling in TED. That experience ignited a desire in me to not only share knowledge more effectively, but to help students and fellow educators see that research isn’t just about writing papers—it’s about conveying ideas that matter, clearly and with purpose. Since then, I’ve been committed to bringing that same spirit into the classroom and into the work we do at Unidad Educativa Nuevo Mundo, where we’re building a culture of scientific thinking and meaningful communication. That day at TEDxUTA wasn’t just inspiring—it became a turning point in how I view the power of ideas.

Things you might not know

People don't know I'm good at diving deep into complex problems, analyzing data, and finding logical solutions — that’s where I truly excel. I’m not someone who thrives on memorizing facts or repeating information without understanding it. I don’t like mediocrity or doing things just because “that’s how they’ve always been done.” I’m driven by precision, logic, and critical thinking, especially when it comes to mathematics, statistics, and research. While I respect all fields, I’m not naturally drawn to subjects in the social sciences that rely heavily on descriptive or subjective analysis — my strength lies in the analytical and quantitative side of things, where I can measure, model, and make sense of patterns. I might not be the best at rote learning, but when it comes to solving problems with numbers, data, and structured reasoning, that’s where I come alive.
