About Lara
I am a…
Educator/Teacher, Foodie
Bio
I graduated with a BA in Economics and later continued my education for an MBA degree. In a weird and twisted way I ended up in the field of education in which I have been working for 5 years as a mathematics teacher, academic coordinator and adviser. My main aim is to expose my students to new ideas and activities and to expand their knowledge, ideas and dreams beyond our small local community. I like to encourage them to think big and believe that they are able to go beyond the boundaries of their own comfort zone and community.
I'm passionate about
I'm passionate about teaching and connecting with my students and providing them with the tools and assistance they need to express themselves and discover and reach their full potential. I'm also passionate about introducing new experiences to my students and creating unforgettable memories.
My other passion is definitely food!
An idea worth spreading
Kids have so much potential. Give them the space to share and help them develop.
The TED story
It all started with my cousin, a couple of years ago when he sent me Ken Robinson's 'Schools Kill Creativity' talk, I was impressed and intrigued to watch more. Since then, I have watched so many talks but my favorite has always been "Teach every child about food" by Jamie Oliver simply because of his undeniable passion about the topic. Recently one of my top students was asking for help to fill a scholarship application for one of the top universities in Lebanon. She was stuck on one question which required her to describe herself, her skills, leadership abilities... in order to help I was searching for activities to build and develop leadership skills and that is when I thought that it would be so amazing and so beneficial for myself and all my students to organize our own TEDx event. Now organizing the TEDx event is what excites me and what I look forward to.
