Bibhu Prasad Kar is an emerging entrepreneur, startup founder, and mechanical engineering student at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Odisha. Driven by a passion for solving real-world problems and creating impact at scale.

I’m passionate about creating solutions that empower people, especially students, to take control of their finances, future, and freedom. At the heart of everything I do lies a belief: financial literacy is a form of leadership.

My TED Story: From Borrowing Dreams to Building One I come from a place where dreams are big but wallets are small. Where students silently skip meals to afford their next exam form or download yet another lending app just to survive one more month. I was one of them. But I wasn’t okay with just accepting that struggle. I started asking questions: why is financial literacy not taught in schools? Why do students have to suffer for wanting to grow? Why is money always a wall, not a bridge? That’s when the idea of HycreD was born. Not just as a startup — but as a movement. A platform built to educate, empower, and elevate students. We started by helping students track their expenses, learn the basics of saving, and get smart about money — not through textbooks, but through action. From demo stock trading to micro-saving with every UPI payment we made finance a game they could win. And then we took it further: We introduced smart loans, backed by financial behaviour and mutual funds as collateral. We built systems where students learn to earn and, eventually, grow from borrowers into investors. And it worked. From not having a proper vision to winning Best Student Startup in Odisha, HycreD has been more than recognition — it’s been proof that a student with a purpose can lead a revolution. But my TED story isn’t about a startup. It’s about a mindset. About saying no to the belief that students must always struggle, always borrow, and always wait. It’s about showing young people that they can build wealth, not just survive debt, and that financial freedom isn't something you earn later in life. You can start building it today. If I could leave you with one message, it would be this: We don’t need to be rich to think like the rich. We just need the right tools, a little courage, and a belief that our dreams are worth investing in.
