Hi, I’m Avni Nayyar, HEAD GIRL CSS 2025, LEAD ORGANIZER TEDxCSSNP, Interact Club Director I am a dreamer, a doer, and someone who believes that words, when shared with honesty, have the power to move people and create change. For me, creativity has never been just a hobby—it’s a language. I have always found myself reaching for a pen or a stage whenever I needed to express something bigger than myself. Poetry became my way of looking at the world, of putting courage, resilience, and emotion into lines that others could connect with. I still remember the moment my self-composed poem “Lakshmibai” won second place at a talent hunt—it wasn’t just about an award, it was about realizing that my words could carry strength and inspire others. Later, when I won first place in an interschool theatre competition, it reminded me that I could bring stories alive not just on paper, but also on stage. Beyond writing and performing, I love being part of conversations that matter. Whether it’s debates, leadership roles, or collaborative projects, I thrive in spaces where ideas flow freely and perspectives are shared. I don’t believe in learning only from books—I believe in learning from people, from experiences, and from daring to step outside the comfort zone. That’s why platforms like TEDx excite me so much. They are not just about speakers on stage; they are about communities coming together to listen, question, and grow. I’d describe myself as curious by nature. I enjoy diving into different subjects, exploring new angles, and connecting dots that others may overlook. I am equally drawn to history and culture as I am to psychology and human behavior, because I think the past, present, and future are all woven into the way we live and think. This curiosity is what keeps me asking questions and seeking meaning, whether it’s in a classroom, a performance, or a casual conversation with friends. At heart, I’m also someone who loves people. I’m an extrovert who believes in connections—the kind of connections where you sit with someone, share stories, laugh over little things, or just feel understood without needing to explain too much. These bonds fuel me, and they also inspire me to create. I want my work, whether it’s poetry, theatre, or any creative pursuit, to carry a sense of belonging for others. But if I had to be honest, what truly drives me is impact. I don’t want my words to just be heard; I want them to be felt. I want them to leave people thinking, “Yes, I’ve been there,” or “I never saw it this way before.” TEDx, to me, represents that exact spirit: giving voice to ideas worth spreading, no matter how big or small. Looking ahead, I don’t see one fixed destination. Instead, I see a journey filled with stories to tell, people to meet, and changes to spark. I hope to use every opportunity, including this one, to share what matters to me and listen to what matters to others. An Idea I Think is Worth Spreading I believe that stories are more than words on a page or lines spoken on a stage—they are bridges. In a world where we often feel pressured to hide our vulnerabilities, storytelling—whether through poetry, theatre, or simple conversation—gives us permission to be real. My TEDx journey began as an exciting opportunity to contribute to something bigger than myself. When I first joined the TEDx team at my school, I was part of the school invites team—tasked with reaching out to schools, connecting with students and teachers, and helping bring the right audience to our events. At the time, I had no idea how much this experience would shape me. It was my first glimpse into the intricate world of organizing an event that thrives on ideas, creativity, and meaningful connections. Working on the invites team taught me the importance of communication, persistence, and empathy. Every call I made, every email I sent, and every conversation I had was a chance to not just spread the word about TEDx but also to understand the people I was connecting with. I realized that behind every successful event lies a web of relationships, careful planning, and attention to detail. Being part of this process gave me a deep appreciation for the effort that goes into creating a platform where ideas worth spreading can shine. Over time, as I contributed more and took on new responsibilities, I was encouraged to step up and embrace leadership roles. I learned to manage teams, coordinate between different groups, and ensure that every piece of the puzzle came together seamlessly. It was challenging, exciting, and immensely rewarding. Gradually, my commitment and passion were recognized, and today, I am proud to serve as the Lead Organizer of our TEDx event. In this role, I guide the entire team, oversee planning and execution, and ensure that our event lives up to the TEDx vision of inspiring, connecting, and empowering people. What has made this journey truly special is the growth I’ve experienced along the way. From being part of a team responsible for inviting schools to now leading a multifaceted organization, I’ve learned the value of collaboration, resilience, and adaptability. I’ve seen firsthand how ideas can spark dialogue, create change, and build communities, and I’ve realized that organizing a TEDx event is about more than logistics—it’s about cultivating an environment where creativity, curiosity, and courage can flourish. This journey has also strengthened my belief in the power of platforms like TEDx. Being part of something that celebrates ideas, encourages voices, and inspires audiences has been transformative. It has taught me that leadership is not just about directing others; it’s about listening, learning, and empowering people to contribute their best. From my first days on the school invites team to now leading the entire event as Lead Organizer, my TEDx journey has been a story of growth, learning, and inspiration. People usually see me as a poet, a performer, or someone confident on stage, but there’s a side of me that often goes unnoticed—a quiet, observant, and intuitive side that shapes the way I experience the world. I’m good at noticing details others might miss: the subtle shift in someone’s expression when they’re nervous, the hidden patterns in a story, or the fleeting emotions that linger in silence. These small observations help me understand people deeply and bring authenticity into my writing, performances, and conversations. What others may overlook becomes my canvas for storytelling. I am also surprisingly good at improvisation. On stage or in life, I can think on my feet, adapt to changing situations, and create solutions in real time. Whether it’s delivering an unexpected line during a theatre performance, making someone laugh with a spontaneous thought, or solving small challenges creatively, I enjoy turning unpredictability into opportunity. Improvisation has taught me that life is not always scripted, and the beauty often lies in responding with presence, curiosity, and courage. Another hidden skill is my ability to connect with people emotionally in ways that are not obvious. While many see my words and performances, few realize the work behind understanding what truly resonates with an audience. I have learned to listen not just to words, but to pauses, silences, and gestures.
