Bio

I’m Mahadevu Rohit, a passionate leader, entrepreneur, and advocate for creativity and impact. As the President of Hertfordshire Students’ Union, I focus on empowering students, amplifying their voices, and driving transformative initiatives that make a tangible difference in their academic and personal lives. With a diverse background in engineering, international business, and design, I’ve honed my skills in strategic planning, digital marketing, and project coordination. From founding TechBrain, where I developed innovative engineering and design solutions, to leading large-scale campaigns and cultural events, I’ve always been driven by a desire to solve problems creatively and build meaningful connections. I thrive on bringing ideas to life, whether through award-winning initiatives like voter registration drives, international festivals, or academic programs that inspire inclusivity and growth. Recognition such as the Gold Medal for Academic Excellence and accolades for leadership and community building have fueled my passion for making an impact. My personal philosophy is rooted in purposeful action, guided by the ethos of the Mahabharata: “Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana”—focus on the work, not the results. I believe that success lies in dedicating ourselves to meaningful work, inspiring others, and creating opportunities for collective growth. Through TEDxUniversityofHertfordshire, I aim to bring together ideas, creativity, and ambition, inspiring others to dream big and take action. When I’m not leading projects, you’ll find me mentoring, designing, or exploring ways to connect creativity with purpose.

I'm passionate about

I am passionate about using the power of business and leadership to make a lasting, positive impact. My journey has been driven by a desire to blend entrepreneurship with social responsibility, aiming to create sustainable solutions that address real-world problems. I thrive in environments where creativity, innovation, and strategic thinking intersect to bring about transformative change. Entrepreneurship has always been at the core of my passions. I believe that by building businesses with purpose, we can challenge the conventional ways of doing things and offer solutions that are both profitable and beneficial to society. I’m particularly excited about social entrepreneurship, where we can tackle critical issues such as inequality, education, and sustainability. I see every challenge as an opportunity to create something that not only generates value but also uplifts communities and makes a difference in people’s lives. Public speaking is another area where I am deeply invested. I enjoy using my voice to inspire and motivate others, whether it’s leading discussions, speaking at events, or sharing stories that resonate with audiences. I am driven by the opportunity to empower people to take action and lead positive changes in their own communities. In addition to entrepreneurship and public speaking, I’m passionate about strategic planning and design. These skills allow me to bring innovative ideas to life and guide projects toward successful outcomes. I enjoy working collaboratively, bringing diverse ideas and perspectives together to create solutions that are both creative and effective. Policy-making and innovation excite me as tools for systemic change. By advocating for smart policies and embracing technological advancements, we can build a more inclusive and sustainable future for all. I’m especially focused on marketing in the social sector, where I believe the right messaging can help organizations connect with their audiences and amplify their impact. Ultimately, my passion is about creating meaningful change—driving initiatives that have a real, positive effect on people’s lives and the world around us.

An idea worth spreading

An Idea Worth Spreading: Social Entrepreneurship as a Catalyst for Change Imagine a world where every problem is met with creativity, innovation, and determination to make things better—not just for individuals, but for entire communities. That’s the essence of social entrepreneurship: the belief that business can be a force for good, where profit and purpose go hand in hand. Social entrepreneurship is about solving real-world problems with innovative solutions that empower people and create lasting impact. It’s not just about starting a business; it’s about making a difference. At its core, social entrepreneurship is a mindset. It’s about looking at the world and seeing opportunities for change instead of obstacles. It’s about believing that businesses don’t have to choose between doing well and doing good—they can achieve both. This idea is worth spreading because it inspires individuals to think differently, act boldly, and work collectively to tackle global challenges. Social entrepreneurship reminds us that even the biggest problems can be addressed with compassion, innovation, and resourcefulness. We live in a world facing immense challenges, from climate change and inequality to access to education and healthcare. These issues often feel overwhelming, but social entrepreneurship offers hope and practical solutions. By blending creativity with a purpose-driven approach, social entrepreneurs tackle these challenges with innovative ideas and a commitment to community impact. This idea matters now more than ever because it encourages individuals, especially young people, to embrace a solutions-orientated mindset and take charge of creating a better future. What makes social entrepreneurship even more exciting is its accessibility. You don’t need vast resources or years of experience to make an impact; you just need a vision, the courage to act, and the willingness to learn. Whether it’s starting a small project, launching a social enterprise, or volunteering with organisations that align with your values, anyone can contribute to positive change. The ripple effect of social entrepreneurship is extraordinary. It doesn’t just solve immediate problems—it creates opportunities, strengthens communities, and inspires others to act. For example, a small startup providing solar-powered lights to rural areas not only improves quality of life but also boosts education, health, and economic opportunities. These initiatives create ecosystems of change, showing us the power of innovation guided by empathy and purpose. This idea resonates with me personally because I’ve seen the impact of community-focused initiatives. As President of the Hertfordshire Students’ Union, I’ve led projects that empower students, promote inclusivity, and build a sense of belonging. From organising cultural festivals to running voter registration campaigns, I’ve learnt that the most meaningful change often begins with a single step. Social entrepreneurship embodies this principle—it starts with an idea, grows with action, and flourishes through collaboration. I believe this idea is especially powerful for young people. Students and early-career professionals are the leaders of tomorrow, and social entrepreneurship equips them with the tools to turn their passions into action. It encourages them to view challenges as opportunities, to take risks, and to embrace failure as part of the journey. Through this TEDx event, I hope to inspire a generation of changemakers who understand that they don’t have to wait for permission to make a difference—they can start right now. Social entrepreneurship is an idea worth spreading because it has the potential to transform communities and create a more equitable, sustainable world. By empowering individuals to take action and prioritise impact, we can build a future where businesses drive meaningful change. TEDx is the perfect platform to amplify this message, bringing together thinkers, dreamers, and doers to share stories of resilience, innovation, and collaboration. Let’s celebrate the power of social entrepreneurship and inspire people to embrace the mindset of a changemaker. Together, we can create ripples of impact that build a brighter, more inclusive future for everyone.

Things you might not know

One of the things people don’t often realize about me is my ability to bring complex ideas to life with simplicity and clarity. Whether it’s designing strategies, developing marketing plans, or leading teams, I thrive on transforming challenging concepts into actionable, clear steps that people can understand and execute. My knack for simplifying complexity is one of my greatest strengths. Another skill that often goes unnoticed is my talent for blending creativity with strategic thinking. Many may not know that I have an eye for design—whether it’s creating compelling visuals, crafting marketing campaigns, or designing digital experiences that speak to the audience's needs. I combine design-focused thinking with data-driven decisions to ensure that every project I work on not only looks great but also achieves the desired impact. I’m also great at building connections and fostering collaboration across diverse teams. As someone who’s led multiple student-led organizations, I have developed a unique ability to unite people from all walks of life to work toward a common goal. I can bridge gaps between different groups, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard and that we’re all moving toward a shared vision. This skill has proven to be invaluable, especially in leadership positions where stakeholder management is key to success. In addition to this, I’m highly effective at managing multiple projects simultaneously while keeping everything on track. My ability to coordinate and organize complex projects while staying on top of deadlines is something that surprises many. I’ve learned how to juggle various responsibilities from my time in leadership roles at Hertfordshire Students' Union, where I was involved in everything from overseeing voter registration campaigns to steering strategic initiatives that impacted thousands of students. Managing these projects requires precision, organization, and strong communication—skills I’ve honed over the years. Another aspect that people may not know is my passion for public speaking and its role in leadership. I am deeply skilled in conveying ideas, rallying support, and leading impactful discussions. It’s something I don’t always advertise, but whether it’s speaking to a group of students, presenting to executives, or leading a team meeting, I can take any opportunity to inspire and motivate others toward a common goal. The ability to engage people with my words and actions has played a central role in all of my leadership experiences. Lastly, I have an unwavering ability to think long-term while executing in the short-term. While I am able to focus on the immediate tasks at hand, I’m always thinking several steps ahead, planning for what’s next, and ensuring that the projects I lead are aligned with both short-term goals and long-term vision. This forward-thinking mindset is crucial in today’s fast-paced, ever-evolving world, and it’s something that sets me apart in my work. In a nutshell, people don’t know I’m good at taking a holistic approach to leadership, blending creativity with strategy, managing complex projects, building diverse teams, and delivering meaningful impact with a clear, long-term vision.
