I'm passionate about

I am passionate about using creativity and leadership to make a positive impact on others. Whether it’s through community-focused projects like my Glamorous Cupcakes fundraiser for the Japan Heart Organization or through Empowered Teen Pathways, I strive to inspire and empower those around me. I believe that every small act of kindness and every idea shared can spark a ripple effect of change. In the future, I aspire to combine my passion for service with my interest in medicine, particularly in improving child healthcare, as I believe that making a tangible impact in people's lives is one of the most fulfilling pursuits. My experiences have shown me the power of community and how dedication, resilience, and passion can lead to something far greater than what you start with—whether that’s in fundraising, education, or simply offering support to someone in need.

An idea worth spreading

One idea that Manami believes is worth spreading is the power of youth-led initiatives to drive social change. Through projects like Glamorous Cupcakes and Empowered Teen Pathways, she has seen firsthand how young people can make an impactful difference when they take ownership of their passions and channel them into action. By empowering teens to share their unique perspectives and contribute to causes that matter to them, we not only nurture personal growth but also create a more engaged and compassionate society. This idea encourages all youth to recognize their ability to shape their communities, regardless of their age, by taking small, actionable steps toward the changes they want to see.

The TED story

My TED story started with my passion for helping others and creating positive change in my community. In 2024, I was introduced to the idea of hosting a TEDx event at my school, GIIS Tokyo. As I learned more about TED’s mission to spread "ideas worth spreading," I realized that this platform aligned perfectly with my values and aspirations. I had already started making an impact through my Glamorous Cupcakes project and Empowered Teen Pathways, so when the opportunity to organize a TEDx event came up, I knew it was a perfect fit. Throughout the process of organizing TEDxYouth@GIISTokyo 2025, I discovered how transformative this platform can be—not just for the audience but for the speakers as well. It’s about fostering a space where individuals can share their unique perspectives, inspire others, and spark action. Each step in this journey has deepened my understanding of leadership, communication, and community-building, and I’m excited to be part of a movement that helps others realize the power of their own ideas. The most significant takeaway from my TED journey is that every idea has the potential to inspire change, no matter how big or small. My TED story is one of learning, growth, and sharing. It reflects my ongoing commitment to helping others, supporting meaningful conversations, and fostering an environment where innovation and creativity can thrive. TEDx has taught me that by amplifying voices and sharing knowledge, we can collectively build a better, more compassionate world.

Things you might not know

People might not know that I’m quite skilled at juggling multiple responsibilities while still maintaining focus and commitment to the tasks at hand. Whether it’s baking hundreds of cupcakes, organizing an event, or balancing academics, I’m able to stay organized and remain calm under pressure. Additionally, I enjoy problem-solving in creative ways, especially when it involves working with others to find solutions that benefit the larger community. My ability to connect with people from different walks of life and foster collaboration is something I take pride in. I believe it’s essential to build relationships based on trust, respect, and shared goals—whether in personal or professional settings.
