Bio
I founded TInkering School as a way to explore ideas about how to help internet-era kids develop general competence. Never having really gone to formal schools turns out to have been excellent preparation for this undertaking.
Working closely with Julie Spiegler, my wife and co-conspirator, we develop unique curricula and hands-on tinkering experiences for adults and children. Most recently, we wrote "Fifty Dangerous Things (you should let your children do)", a book for kids and parents who want experience the world first-hand.
I'm passionate about
Re-establishing the freedoms of childhood, self-directed learning, hands-on experiences, the value of play, the importance of fooling around.
An idea worth spreading
I think that it is time to stop thinking about education as something that we do to people, and start embracing the idea of student as voracious self-directed learner.
