Bio
A New York licensed attorney for over 20+ years and currently certified as a Human Rights consultant. Prior work includes criminal defense, insurance defense, and insurance professional.
I am the ultimate cheerleader, serving as a mentor for law students, bar applicants, and other young attorneys.
My current volunteer work for Soroptimist International involves developing economic programs that mentor and inspire young girls and women.
I am a living testimony of the disconnect from our language, then the revelation!
We don't even have the language to discuss human rights in America. Instead, we use sterile, anti-human language like "just a wage issue:" As i was preparing this talk, I was struggling to find my connection: I was so ready to launch into the facts, I almost forgot that I started my career as a criminal defense lawyer, who advocated for people's human rights everyday. I pull from two stories as examples. I would have missed this connection in my over simplistic, but understood description as a criminal defense attorney. In fact: I was a Human Rights Advocate.
I'm passionate about
sharing knowledge, learning, life, the future, belief that we are better and will be better humans
An idea worth spreading
AMERICANS DESERVE MORE HUMAN RIGHTS.
America deserves MORE Human rights, BUT before we embrace more we may have to acknowledge that we don't have "everyday" language that connects our issues to Human Rights. Thus we must first learn to reframe everyday events to be viewed as a human rights issue and use language that reminds of us of our shared humanity at home and abroad.
Adding these Human Rights into our laws will change the course of America NOW by unifying, constitutional language, restoring the right to vote for felons, and giving equal pay for equal work for ALL.
